Banks need to be more secure
We have heard a lot recently about data loses, these were mainly by large government organisations like the DVLA, but this also happens in the private sector where details of bank customers have been found in bins and credit cards are routinely swiped by staff in stores and restaurants in order for them to use the credit card themselves or sell it on.
But banks are in a situation where they need to run a fast efficient business and keep top security too, this is not always possible and some times something is left out of the equation and this is when problems occur.
There is a need for banks and retailers to prioritise their IT systems, with strict asset management and auditing, and when there is the development of new software this really needs to be totally secure and safe with no back doors and produced by known companies who operate a secure working area, then and only then will the data be secure and safe.
