Spotting Phishing scams

Emails pretending to be from banks and other organisations are getting pretty popular these days and although they may appear to be from your bank, they are in fact trying to get your banking details off of you or as it has become to known as “Phishing”

Here are tips on how you can fight against the Phishers:

Look at the URL
Check the email address
Install a plugin on your browser
Don’t believe everything you read
Look for a secure symbol
Look for errors
No account open?
Generic greetings
Asking for information that isn’t necessary
Email has an attachment

These are self explanatory but as a general rule no bank is ever going to ask you for financial, banking or personal detail via email or phone.
