Barclays selling off equity arm
In order for Barclays to strengthen their position in the world of finance, it looks as if they are going to sell off Barclays Private Equity (BPE); if this is not possible then they could quite easily consider the disposal of some of their holdings in the BPE funds.
This just goes to show that the banking sector in the UK is still not out of the woods yet, and that they need to cut back and make the banks stronger, in both financial and physical shape, this will enable them to survive 2009.
The banking industry are also coming under pressure from the Financial Services Authority (FSA), they are telling banks to concentrate on their balance sheets in preparation for the rocky times ahead, it is expected to get worse before things get better.
