In order for the youngsters of today there is a good case for parents to teach them early in all aspects of financial matters. There are some simple tips that can show you how to show the kids how to be financially aware.

Practice what you preach, its no good saying one thing and doing another.
Pay pocket money, this will allow them to understand about spending.
Make sure that they save money, starting early is the best way.
Explain about goals, like should they buy a chocolate bar now or save the money and buy something better later.
Needs and wants, kids need to know the difference between what they want and what they need.
Keeping a budget, if they write down what’s coming in and where it’s going, it looks better or worse.
Allow them to make mistakes, it’s a hard lesson but it is never forgotten.
Teach how interest works, they need to know how much interest is payable on borrowed money.
Sales tricks, make them aware that what looks like a good deal, may not be after all.
Credit cards, the easiest way to run up a load of debt, explain how they work.

The kids should now be on the way to being financially aware now.

It seems owing to the nations love affair with credit, the government has decided to begin to teach school children about personal finance. According to research done by the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) with 14 to 18 year olds, it would seem that over fifty per cent would be in debt by the age of seventeen. But even more of a concern for the future is that ninety per cent of the age group may worry about getting into debt, but did see credit as a way of getting things that they could not afford.

It is suggested that the finance education will be split into three stages in line with the schools, i.e. infant, primary and secondary, the children will learn in the early stages by playing shop etc, while in the later secondary schools it will cover allowances and budgeting for essentials.

As there is very finance taught in schools, it has to be a good thing.

Its that time of the year again, when students are making their final plans to take that first major step into the wide world, going to university. Naturally they are full of excitement and nerves, so the last thing that they are going to want to be thinking about is boring finance.

However finance is the fuel that keeps a student at university, without it, their future is limited. There is plenty of advice out there and really it has to down to the student themselves to get into running their own finances, but just to help them along the way here are just ten simple points:

Get organized
Avoid credit cards!
Track your spending
Textbooks
Nights out
Use your campus
Your social network
Don’t get a car
Bad influences
Appreciate your time at college/uni

It is advisable to seek advice from many sources, and to begin financial planning now, before the student actually begins their studies, because it is then when finances can be forgotten. Best advice is BUDGET and stick to it.
