Sometimes it is only when things get so bad, that all the finance secrets start to come out. As with the financial institutions who managed to hide their exposure to bad debt, so do individuals sometimes hide the truth about their current financial status.

These lies often lead to a serious breakdown the relationship, so what are the most common ways of hiding financial difficulties?

Hiding credit card statements – One of the easiest ways to spend money undetected is to charge it
Concealing gambling winnings or losses – Gambling is a very expensive pastime
Understating spending – Some financial lies are more like half-truths
Secret bank accounts – Opening a secret bank account is often done with good intentions
Secret credit cards – Keeping credit cards a secret is surprisingly common

These are just clues to show that something is going wrong, the sooner the problem comes to light the better off all parties will be.

History shows that major financial and economic centres are delicate to say the least Europe is littered with cities that once prospered as financial centres, yet are today a small shadow of their former self.

London should be aware of this because the main factor involved in the demise of these once high and mighty cities is political and financial stability, without one or the other the financial centre is doomed.

London has so far survived the initial political and financial test, but further political trouble is heading in London’s direction from the EU.

The hub of the trouble is the hedge funds and private equity firms in the city, although these were no directly responsible for the current financial problems, some believe that they had a hand in it. The UK could find that Europe has the power to change where the money powerbase is at will!

These days more than ever are times when personal finance should be taught to young adults, especially if they are leaving home to go to college or just starting out on a new career. Whatever the route taken, personal finance is going to take up a large part of their life from now on.

Yet with such responsibility they are never taught about the basic of personal finance, maybe it is about time that banks got involved in the communities and started this off.

Until then here are some crucial points that everyone should know about:

The difference between “wants” and “needs”
The power of compound interest
How to use credit cards responsibly
How to live within your means
How to plan for the future
Understanding contracts you sign
How to create and maintain a budget
How to protect your assets
How to do your own taxes

Motivating kids for finance

The key to a secure future for today’s youngsters is for them to be taught at an early age about the basics of finance. It seems that they are growing up with the belief that you can have everything now and pay it off as you please, the never, never as it used to be called.

However, things have dramatically changed for the time being at least, finance is not readily available or so they say but there is always going to be bad finance and it this that appeals to the younger person quick finance for the fast life.

Yet the economy is fragile, jobs are no longer secure and it is this that the young should learn, having too much fast credit to have everything now will only lead to disaster in the future.

There are some simple steps that the small business owner can take in order to help streamline the finances and once this has been done, it could mean easier accounting. More to the point it will be so much easier to see exactly what is going on in the business.

1. Keep Your Bills in One Place
2. Pay Your Bills on Schedule
3. Read Your Credit Card Statements
4. Take Advantage of Automatic Payments
5. Computerize Your Chequebook
6. Get Overdraft Protection
7. Cancel Unused Accounts
8. Consolidate Your Accounts
9. Establish Automatic Savings
10. Clean up Your Files

The UK’s top five banks did not fair too well when they were road tested by the finance 1000 website index, this is where banking and finance websites are tested and graded to certain standards.

Yet none of the UK’s top five banks websites made it into the top ten, in fact the UK’s leading finance website for compliance, performance and accessibility, is the site operated by Intelligent Finance.

How the websites were tested:
Accessibility to A, AA and AAA guidelines
First page, metadata and download times
Server response times
Reported site errors reported and errors per page
Site HTML warnings reported and warnings per page
Calculated site download speed

The UK finance website that showed the most improvement was the Thinc Group, its website moved 884 places up the table to 11th spot.

Money matters has become one of the hot topics on Twitter, which is no surprise considering that this topic concerns everyone. This is because people are finding that for the first time money and personal finances are the in topic.

However sometimes things are hard to find on Twitter, but this is made simple with the http://search.twitter.com/ URL, once this page is displayed the by using the hash tag, there are some great posts. Use these tags to see for yourself: #frugaltip, #bargains and #coupon.

Getting a grip on your finances is hard enough, but with a full blown credit crisis creating all sorts of problems for many people there is an extra pressure on people to get a grip on their finances in order to be ready should the worst happen.

The problem for ordinary people is that they have little influence in their future, as this is in the hands of their employers, but what they can do is work on their finances and get them into some short of order.

This can be done by following the tips below:

Make it a habit to check your bank account on a regular basis
Try to reduce your daily expenses as much as you can
Credit cards increase debts
Avoid borrowing money from anyone
Continue to pay the premiums
You should look for extra sources of income other than your ongoing one
